background in youth development. He holds a
Masters Degree in Sport Science (soccer
specialization) and a Bachelors Degree in
Physical Education from the University of Lleida
(National Institute of Physical Education of
Catalonia, Spain).
While in Spain, Oscar personally worked with
some of the most recognized soccer coaches in
the world including the former Director of the
F.C. Barcelona Youth Academy and former
Technical Manager of the Liverpool F.C. Academy
to name just a few. Oscar is also a former player
in the Spanish National 3rd Division and holds
coaching credentials from both the RFEF (Royal
Spanish Football Federation) and the
USSF. Oscars coaching career spans over twelve
years both in Spain and the US.
Mark Smith Travel Coordinator
Mark Smith was appointed as the new CYA Travel
Soccer Coordinator role previously carried out by
Mark Abbott. Mark has been involved with CYA
Soccer for over seven years. He has held several roles
including coaching teams and most recently
coordinating our Emerging Talent Program (ETP).
Mark grew up in Fairfax County, playing rec and travel
soccer for a local club, high school and eventually
club soccer at VA Tech until academics won the fight
for his time.
Mark holds the USSF “E”, NSCAA Advanced Regional,
and NSCAA Goalkeeping Levels I & II certifications,
and is scheduled to attend the NSCAA Goalkeeping
Level III course this spring.
Mark’s love for the game and his dedication to our
soccer program, especially for his kids’ teams (U9
WAGS and U11 NCSL), make him a perfect fit for this
volunteer role.
