Zoom Q2n4k
Video Recorder / Webcam
Music now has 5 of the Zoom Q2n4k cameras available for checkout, for the purpose of augmenting online
instruction. Contact Brady for availability. The camera can be used as a video recorder, audio recorder or USB
webcam. Each kit includes the camera, a 32GB SD card, SD card adapter, USB cable, 4 NiMH batteries and
mic stand tripod adapter.
Video Recording (Resolution and FOV)
Choose the resolution with the top/left button. Choose the Field of View (i.e. zoom level) with the next button
down. Note that the extreme FOV settings will distort the picture slightly. The lowest resolution (720p) can be
uploaded directly to Kaltura "My Media" on Canvas.
Audio Recording (and volume)
This device records in PCM format. To create compressed (e.g. mp3 or m4a), you will need to use a tool (e.g.
iTunes) to compress. Use the round knob to set the volume level. For most purposes, a setting of "5" is fine.
Webcam
To use the device for video and/or audio capture, connect the USB cable, then turn on the camera. You will be
prompted for the role. Choose "Webcam", then launch your teleconferencing tool such as Zoom. Note that the
device will not record while in Webcam mode. If you want to stream and record simultaneously, record in
software (e.g. in your Zoom Pro session).
Battery and Power
Battery life depends on the resolution and battery type. 1080/30p 1.2 hours Alkaline, 2.0 hours NiMH
(rechargable). 4K/30p .5 hours Alkaline, 1.0 hour NiMH. You can also use a 5V USB connection (via wallwart,
Cel phone battery or laptop). If the battery runs out while you are recording, your recording while be saved, but
the unit will power-off.
Transcoding
Higher resolutions will create very large files, that may not be appropriate for upload. To trim and/or transcode
your video to other resolutions and compression settings, you can use Quicktime or a tool such as "Free MP4
Converter" - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/free-mp4-converter/id693443591
