OpportunityManager(AUSOM).

ScholarshipResponseDeadline

 IncomingstudentshaveuntilMay1toacceptordeclinefinancialaidoffers,including

scholarships.

 Ifanearlierresponsedeadlineisrequested,anincomingstudentmustbegivenanopportunityto

requestinwritinganextensionofthisdeadlineuntilMay1.

CostofAttendance

 AuburnUniversityhasanovercostofattendancepolicywhichlimitsthetotalamountastudent

mayreceiveininstitutionalscholarshipstotheannualestimatedcostofattendance.

 Thecurrentannualestimatedcostofattendanceforresidentsis$31,590andfornon‐residentsis

$50,838.

 OUSperiodicallyreviewsareport

includingallstudentsawardedovercostandnotifiesthe

scholarshipcoordinatorifastudent’sawardmustbereduced.

FinancialNeed

 February1istheprioritydeadlinetheFAFSAtobereceivedbyAuburnforconsiderationforneed‐based

scholarships.

RecipientSelection

 Scholarshipsshouldbeawardedtotherecipientwhomostcloselyreflectsallstatedcriteria.

 Recipientsmusthaveatleast1qualificationpointtobeselected.

 Whenacriterionisstatedasapreference,effortsshouldbeexhaustedtoidentifyastudentwho

meetsthepreferredcriterionbeforethe

criterionmaybewaived.

 ApplicantswhoarecurrentstudentswithanexpectedgraduationdateofFall2018shouldbe

excluded.

 Inadditiontotheselectedrecipient(s),itisadvisabletoidentifyaminimumoftwoalternate

recipients.

BESTPRACTICES

AwardAmount

 Scholarshipsshouldbeawardedattheuniversity’sminimumamountrequiredtoestablisha

scholarship,currently$1,000.

 Awardamountsshouldberoundedtothenearest$100.

Post‐Acceptance

 Recipientscanonlyberequiredtoacceptthescholarshipofferedtoreceivepayment.

 Recipientsareencouragedbutcannotberequiredtoexpressappreciationtothedonor,attend

receptionsormeetings,provideservices,orcompleteinternshipsorprograms.
